“Mnemba Island is a small secluded atoll off Zanzibar with only 12 beachfront bungalows. I was surrounded only by corals, dolphins and the sounds of the Indian Ocean – it was the perfect romantic getaway.

“St Thomas, one of the US Virgin Islands, was the first trip my wife and I took together, and he has very special memories. Since then we have made family trips there and it really is the perfect destination; it’s not too far from the United States, you can visit the islands, there are great restaurants, as well as adventures such as snorkeling and fishing. We haven’t had a family adventure in a long time so when it is safe to leave I can’t wait to return to Marriott’s Frenchman’s Cove resort with my kids. There is a slide in the pool – that’s the simple fun these days, right? ”

“I visited St Just in Roseland Church in Truro, Cornwall, just before the first lockdown, while staying at the Tresanton Hotel. John Betjeman called it “for some the most beautiful cemetery in the world” – and he was there. It’s right on the water’s edge, breathtakingly beautiful, and I would love to see it at high tide.

“Villa Feltrinelli on Lake Garda is a charming hotel which was Mussolini’s last home. I loved the charm and serenity of the area, and the hotel was idyllic. Our days were filled with sunshine, hopping in the lake, long lunches and afternoons spent reading. The light and the surrounding mountains were just beautiful – a perfect escape.

“I can’t wait to return to Ericeira, a fishing village about 45 minutes north of Lisbon, to surf with the teachers at Magikvanilla. It captured my heart – I’m even learning Portuguese now.

“Ceský Krumlov is a medieval town full of castles on the Vltava river in the south of the Czech Republic. I was directed to this Unesco World Heritage Site by a Czech friend and we were not disappointed. The view of the river and Ceský Krumlov Castle from our room at the historic Dvorák Hotel made the stay even more special.

“My husband and I spent a weekend at Governor’s Beach in St Barts one spring for a friend’s birthday, and it was such an amazing place; we were on the beach, alone. There are no stores, just bring a towel and that’s it. We stayed at a nearby hotel called Le Sereno.

“Lindsay Castle is located on the white sands of Noetzie Beach in Knysna, South Africa, and the choppy Indian Ocean and the light are very spectacular. It’s very low-key as the castles go, but it was built by hand, stone by stone, and each beam was chosen by hand. It’s not “luxury” in the traditional sense, but I consider it an eagle’s nest – just a very relaxing and special place.

“I had an amazing weekend at the Belmond Hotel Splendido in Portofino with my husband two years ago. You can explore the area on a small Vespa or have lunch on a private boat near San Fruttuoso Bay. La Terrazza, the hotel’s restaurant, serves the perfect tomato pasta, which they named after Elizabeth Taylor. You feel like you’re back in the 70s when you are there. It is timeless.

“An unforgettable place I have traveled is the Ilha Grande National Park in Brazil. I stayed on Bonete Beach in a rustic cabin that is part of the Pousada Canto Bravo. It was a magical place with only candles, no wifi and no road access. An idyllic getaway.
