Summary France 1-0 Germany: score, goals, highlights, Euro 2020

France, world champion, has started its campaign for Euro 2020 well with a 1-0 victory over Germany in Munich.

In a game that was played at a breakneck pace from start to finish, Germany dominated possession and managed 10 shots on goal but only one on target as the home side failed to test Hugo Lloris in the 90 minutes.

France took the lead in the 20th minute thanks to an own goal by Mats Hummels, who accidentally directed the ball past his own goalkeeper as he attempted to cut a cross from Theo Hernandez to Kylian Mbappé.

At the 51st minute, France nearly doubled their lead when Rabiot hit the near post from close range after hanging on to a well-played through pass from Mbappé.

France would then find the back of the net twice, only for the two goals – that of Mbappé in the 65 ‘and that of Benzema in the last minutes – which were excluded for offside. Pogba, who was instrumental in setting up the two disallowed goals, has been named man of the match, the United midfielder having put in a huge performance alongside Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante in the French engine room.

The next stop for France is Hungary on Saturday, while Germany will have the difficult task of finding their way back to victory against defending champions Portugal, who oversaw a 3-0 win over Hungary earlier Tuesday.
