Manuel Locatelli – Rumor Rating: 5

As Fernandinho ends his Manchester City career, finding a long-term replacement to join Rodri in the midfield rotation should become an important task for the Etihad hierarchy this summer.

One name that has long been linked with a move to the Premier League club is Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, and relayed by Sports witness, several big clubs in Europe have all done research for Locatelli, including Chelsea and Manchester City, both of whom have ‘made movements‘.

The 23-year-old has spoken about his future, saying it will be decided upon his return to Sassuolo after the European Championships – where Locatelli has become a key member of Roberto Mancini’s Italian squad.

My rumor rating of five is based on the fact that no official discussions have been reported. However, Locatelli appears to be a player who would thrive in Pep Guardiola’s system. Don’t be surprised if that rumor note starts to rise as the summer gets longer.

Raheem Sterling – Rumor Rating: 4

According to reports from Athletic’s Sam LeeManchester City winger Raheem Sterling is reportedly keen to leave the club this summer if the opportunity arises.

After a frustrating year for the England international, one has the feeling that he has become frustrated at the Etihad; and although Pep Guardiola sometimes knows that a player just has to leave, he appreciates that the 26-year-old has continued to put in maximum effort despite his personal feelings.

Despite the frustration reported, Raheem Sterling is not interested in the prospect of being used as a negotiating tool by Manchester City, claims the Matt law of the telegraph.

Although both north London clubs are said to be interested in the winger, Tottenham would not be able to pay his salary and Arsenal would struggle to fund a deal. In order to keep his fate in his hands, the winger will hold talks with the club about his future at the end of the European Championships, with the club ready to discuss a new long-term deal.

A rumor score of four seems sufficient in this situation. While Raheem Sterling may be frustrated after a disappointing 2020/21 season, that doesn’t change the fact that he has been a crucial member of Pep Guardiola’s winning teams. On top of that, securing the signing of a 26-year-old with a goalscoring record like his would require astronomical costs, which very few clubs can match.

Bernardo Silva – Rumor Rating: 7

Although it may surprise many, Sam lee reported that midfielder Bernardo Silva would like to leave Manchester City. Sources say he was keen to move to Barcelona last summer and everything was in place for that to happen, only to fail late, leaving him sheepish.

After two breathtakingly formative seasons for the Portuguese, 2020 and 2021 have seen the number of midfield goal contributions drop sharply, which can be largely attributed to his changing role in Pep Guardiola’s system.

The manager is however reluctant to let Bernardo Silva leave the Etihad, due to his performance and application despite his reported dissatisfaction. While the boss knows he needs to refresh his team, he would be hesitant to see him go, as is the case with Raheem Sterling.

My rumor of a seven for Silva’s possible departure comes from the fact that it might be time to refresh the offensive part of the squad for the Premier League champions.

And while Raheem Sterling is reportedly demanding a hefty fee that most clubs cannot afford, a transfer fee for Bernardo Silva might be possible for some of the clubs who would be interested in the mercurial winger.

Later in the day, Duncan’s Castles, who has been the man of confidence of this saga, has further strengthened Barcelona have made a “Informal proposal” midfield and must now satisfy Manchester City with a “Large cash offer”.

Bernardo Silva / João Felix Swap Deal – Rumor Rating: 7

As stated above, Bernardo Silva wants to move away from Manchester City. One of the rumored destinations is Atletico Madrid, and according to the transfer guru Dean Jones, a swap deal involving the two clubs could be on the table.

According to reports, Atletico Madrid striker João Felix’s situation at La Liga club ‘seems uncertain’, and the Spanish champion’s interest in Bernardo Silva can potentially present an opportunity for a swap deal.

Another rumor of seven is doing good in this situation, as Manchester City will be looking for a replacement for the recently deceased Sergio Aguero and Joao Felix appears to be a future European football superstar.

From a business perspective, with the two players having similar market value, a swap deal could save the Premier League club some of their money for other targets, such as Jack Grealish.

Man City / Barcelona Swap Offers – Rumor Note: 1

Recent allegations have said that Barcelona and Manchester City could be in talks for several major swap deals, including a successful deal that would see Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva possibly swapped with Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto.

And with Sergio Agüero and Eric Garcia already leaving the Etihad for Catalonia, some Manchester City fans remained perplexed – so much so that some tweeted at the La Liga club offering them the Manchester City badge and the Etihad Stadium!

Despite this information, a few notable journalists intervened to clarify the situation. First, by speaking on Catalan radio ‘Què T’hi Jugues’, Lu Martin had this to say,

“I asked Manchester, they said, ‘You’re crazy, what’s wrong with you?’

He continued; “We talked about it, especially through [Jorge] Mendes. But talking to Man City has shown that trading players is impractical … “

To back this up, the Stuart Brennan of Manchester Evening News weighed in on the situation, saying the Premier League would not make any swap deal with Barcelona involving João Cancelo and / or Bernardo Silva.

The Etihad club ignored the most outrageous claims and dismissed the most damaging as a potential trade involving the above two.

With very credible sources claiming that these swap deals are just nonsense, a rumor of 1 is enough. While a rating of zero is also applicable, often there is no smoke without a fire, regardless of the size of the fire.

Regarding a previous report, Duncan’s Castles also refers to this deal in their story around Bernardo Silva whereby Barcelona offer Manchester City a wide range of players as part of “FFP exchange” offers.

The list, although quite long, includes Sergi Roberto, Ousmane Dembélé, Jordi Alba, Coutinho, Clément Lenglet, Trincão, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Piqué.
