Inside the chic pop-up of Don Alfonso’s new Casa Loma from 1890

Royal life awaits you at Don Alfonso’s pop-up location inside Casa Loma, which is slated to open this week on Wednesday, July 21.

The world-famous Don Alfonso 1890 closed in October 2020 due to COVID-19 regulations, but has risen again for a pop-up experience like no other.

You can enjoy fine dining worthy of a Michelin star in the castle’s dream veranda with mouth-watering dishes for a limited time only. So if you didn’t get a chance to check it out the first time, here’s what you can expect.

If you’ve been to Casa Loma before, you know that the veranda is by far one of the coolest rooms inside. The tables are set with clean white linens and offer a view of the castle gardens.

With large arched windows, lush greenery, and glittering chandeliers hanging from the high ceilings, the setting is sure to make you feel all kinds of whimsy.

The room is bathed in natural light and the circular stained glass ceiling is sure to catch your eye.

The food

The Don Alfonso pop-up is hosted by Executive Chef Daniele Corona, who was trained by Michelin-starred chefs Alfonso and Ernesto Iaccarino.

Taking inspiration from the Amalfi Coast, where Corona is from, the menu uses lots of Mediterranean flavors and will introduce you to all kinds of new textures. The price is higher, however, so expect to pay anywhere from $ 24 to $ 76 for a dish.

The Rigatoni Vesuvio is creamy and delicious and is accompanied by Parmigiano Reggiano aged for 36 months. Pasta lovers will swoon!

The Anatra – minced duck with mashed potatoes gala and balsamic reduction on the side will melt in your mouth and leave you craving more with every bite.

Il Bisonte is truly decadent, with seared organic bison tenderloin wrapped in Swiss cheese and flaky mozzarella with green salsa, red pepper reduction and a San Marzano tomato.

For dessert, the Mediterraneo is a must. The base of the pistachio ravioli crumbles like a cookie in the mouth while the slices of fresh Sicilian oranges have a real citrus freshness. The dish tastes like a fine fruit salad in the form of a desert.

The drinks

A dinner party is never complete without an equally fine cocktail, and Don Alfonso is prepared. With an extensive cocktail and wine list, every type of drinker can find a delicious drink to accompany their meal.

Strawberry Field is mixed with mandarin gin, strawberry syrup, a herbal liqueur from France and lemon juice. Served on ice, this tropical drink has a light and refreshing taste.
