Cork pubs that won’t admit customers without a Covid vaccine certificate receiving online abuse and negative reviews

SOME Cork pubs that will not admit customers without a Covid vaccine certificate are threatened with online boycott.

Chairman of the Cork branch of the Irish Winegrowers’ Federation, Michael O’Donovan of the Castle Inn on South Main St, said such threats were received by him and other Cork tax collectors during the last week.

And those who criticize the introduction of vaccination certificates have accused publicists of “promoting apartheid and discrimination,” O’Donovan said.

He said he stopped posting updates on his company’s Twitter page due to the abuse.

Harp Bar manager in Ballyphehane, Michael Counihan, said that although the company “follows the law as best we can”, online abuse has been directed against the bar.

And he said: “Comments have come from Dublin, Tyrone, Galway, for example. They talked about discrimination because we follow the guidelines. “

He said hate mail was also received at the bar.

Over the past week, there have been numerous one-star reviews posted on online review boards of pubs and restaurants in Cork and other parts of the country.

One person posted more than 20 negative reviews, including four on premises in the City and County of Cork. Regarding a bar, he wrote: “Support a two-tier society, shame on you”.

Another poster wrote of the same premises: “Advertising for a two-tier society while discriminating against customers with health problems. This company presented itself as a political pawn to transform Ireland into an apartheid state. “

Another poster which wrote several negative reviews wrote of another Cork establishment: ‘Support discriminatory measures [sic].

“Shame on you, I hope you can find your spine where you lost it.”

On the same premise, another wrote, “I do not and will never support any company that thinks it is okay to implement the government’s latest policy of discrimination on the unvaccinated. Just another establishment added to my boycott list. See you”

Another wrote: “’Rebel Pub’ you are a shame to follow and introduce medical discrimination / apartheid! Money-hungry morons! “

A poster wrote of another local: “This place supports medical apartheid, segregation, a two-tier society, discrimination and supports fascism. Shameful establishment.
